Promise in the Cornfield is the story of Chessie Harris. Guided by compassion and totally committed to helping others, Chessie has spent most her life working to accomplish her mission on the streets of Alabama. Growing up as the child of a poor sharecropper, Chessie Harris lived in an era of pain, prejudice and bigotry. But she did not let that stop her from caring. In fact, this is Chessie’s most valuable trait and Chessie and her family have cared for more than 900 neglected street children.
