Adventist Book Centre – Returns & Refunds Policy


1. Our Commitment to You

At the Adventist Book Centre (“we”, “us”, “our”), we want you to be satisfied with every purchase. This policy explains your rights and our practices in accordance with New Zealand consumer law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986.


2. Your Rights Under New Zealand Law

Under the Consumer Guarantees Act, products you purchase from us must be of acceptable quality, fit for their intended purpose, and match their description. If these guarantees are not met (for example an item is faulty, damaged on arrival, not as described, or fails to work as expected), you have the right to a repair, replacement, or refund at no extra cost.


Under the Fair Trading Act, we must not mislead you about your rights, the products we sell, or what remedies are available if something goes wrong.


3. Faulty or Misdescribed Products

If a product you buy from us is faulty, damaged, or significantly different from what was described or expected, please contact us as soon as possible.


We will:

• Assess the issue promptly once the product is returned with proof of purchase.

• Offer a repair, replacement, or full refund in accordance with your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act.

• Provide the remedy within a reasonable time and at no cost to you.

If a product has only a minor issue, we may choose to repair, replace, or refund. For major issues, you may choose a refund or replacement.


4. Change of Mind Returns (Optional Policy)

If you simply change your mind, we are not legally required to offer a refund or exchange, however we may choose to offer an optional return under the following conditions (subject to management discretion and stock availability):


• The product must be unused, in its original condition and packaging, with all tags and accessories.

• You must return the product within 7 days of purchase.

• You must present a valid proof of purchase (receipt or order confirmation).

• Refunds for change-of-mind returns may be issued as store credit or exchange only (not cash), unless otherwise agreed.


Note: Some products (e.g. digital items, magazines) may not be eligible for change-of-mind returns; please check with us at the time of purchase.


5. How to Return an Item

To return a product:

• Bring it to the Adventist Book Centre store with your receipt, OR

• Contact us first at 09 277 8543 or abc.nz@adventist.org.nz to arrange a return or exchange.

Please ensure goods are packaged safely to avoid further damage in transit.


6. Refunds

If a refund is due under the Consumer Guarantees Act or our voluntary policy, we will normally refund in the same form of payment used for the original purchase, unless otherwise agreed.


7. Exclusions

The Consumer Guarantees Act does not cover products:

• That have been misused, altered, or damaged after purchase,

• Bought for commercial use rather than personal use,

• Where there is no valid proof of purchase.


8. Questions & Dispute Resolution

If you have questions about this policy or your rights under New Zealand law, please speak to a staff member. If an issue cannot be resolved directly with us, you may seek independent advice or assistance from Consumer Protection agencies.
